The North East Regional Health Directorate received a significant boost on Thursday with the delivery of new transport logistics and essential supplies from KOICA and UNICEF. This donation aims to enhance healthcare services in the region’s rural communities.

The donation includes seven Toyota Hilux pick-ups, six tricycle ambulances, 78 motorcycles, 50 bicycles, and various essential supplies. These items were provided by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Mr. Dong-Hyun Lee, KOICA’s Country Director, explained that this is part of KOICA’s Phase II of the CHPS+ Project, which focuses on strengthening Ghana’s primary healthcare system. The motorbikes will be used by Community Health Volunteers and Community Health Officers to improve healthcare delivery in rural areas.

“These supplies, along with training, infrastructure, and health equipment, are part of our holistic approach to ensure quality healthcare for all Ghanaians, especially in underserved communities,” said Mr. Lee.

Mr. Bhanu Pathak, Chief of Field Office for UNICEF in Tamale, noted that the support from KOICA has helped train hundreds of health workers in critical maternal and child health skills. This training is aimed at reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

Dr. Braimah also urged health workers to use the donated equipment properly and maintain it well to ensure it benefits many people for a long time.
